Internet Security: Protecting Your Data - January 19, 2007
In the information age, a disaster doesn't have to involve a fire, tornado, or other natural disasters. In our knowledge-based economy, the most serious cases may involve our most precious resources -- information.
On January 19th, as part of the Main Street Institute, a workshop was held to help Central Indiana business owners learn to avoid such issues or recover quickly if disaster does strike.
The day began with the startling revelation that more than half of U.S. companies experienced unauthorized access to their computer systems over the last 12 months (according to a joint study by the FBI and Computer Security Institute). 65% of firms fell victim to computer viruses, nearly half had technology equipment stolen and more than a third suffered unauthorized access to sensitive information.
