The Capstone Experience

Ready for the Real World

The gateway from the Kelley School of Business into the real world involves the capstone experience. This consists of two courses taken at or near the end of the student's academic program that are designed to integrate key business content areas studied throughout the student's academic career. Students will also draw upon their quantitative, writing, oral communication, and collaboration skills.

Administrative Policy
The first course, BUS J401 - Administrative Policy (or BUS J402 Honors), is a case-based strategic management course that combines the theory (readings) with practice (case analysis, papers, presentation, and discussion) using the tools of strategy to determine an organization's purpose and objectives - then setting a course of action to accomplish those objectives to effectively compete and create competitive advantages in the marketplace
Business Decisions
The second course, BUS J411 - Business Decisions, further utilizes these tools and skills in an iterative online business simulation that gives teams of students the opportunity to develop their strategy and make the operational decisions needed to run their own multi-million dollar business in an interactive and competitive environment - and learning from the consequences of those decisions using the industry and internal reporting information provided by the simulation.
