Business Minor

Getting a minor in business provides access to unlimited possibilities within the schools here at IUPUI. The Kelley minor is a flexible program designed to give non-business students a broad but basic understanding of the major functional areas in the world of business.
Because certain courses are not offered every semester, we encourage you to meet with an advisor to devise a plan before pursuing a minor in business.
- Section A Required Business Courses (9 credit hours):
- BUS A200 (3 cr.) Foundations of Accounting
P: Sophomore standing
BUS K201 (3cr.) The Computer in Business (with a C or better) *(Math Science students, see note below)
BUS L203 (3cr.) Commercial Law I
P: Sophomore standing
- Section B Required Business Courses (9 credit hours):
- Prerequisites for all three courses below: BUS A200, K201, L203, ENG W131, MATH 110 or above. These courses do not have to be taken at the same time and may be taken in any sequence
- BUS F300 (3 cr.) Introduction to Financial Management
BUS M300 (3 cr.) Introduction to Marketing
BUS P300 (3 cr.) Introduction to Operations Management
- Section C Business Elective (3 credit hours): Choose one of the following:
- BUS D301 (3 cr.) International Business Environment
P: ECON E201 and E202
BUS Z302 (3 cr.) Managing and Behavior in Organizations
P: Junior Standing
BUS-Z 311 (1.5 cr.) Ethics and Leadership and BUS-Z 312 (1.5 cr.) and Human Resources and Negotiations P: Junior Standing
Requirements to receive a business minor
- 21 credit hours in business
- minimum grade point average (GPA) in the seven courses of 2.0 or above
- four of the seven courses must be taken on the IUPUI campus.
- fill out an application for the Kelley School of Business Minor at the beginning of their final semester at IUPUI.
Remember: Most courses will NOT substitute for similar courses in the business major if a student decides to change from the minor to the major. Please see a Kelley School of Business academic advisor for details.
Math Science students, Business Minor alternative option
Student majoring in Math Science have two options in obtaining their Business Minor. Math Science students may complete the Business Minor above or replace the course, K201 with a Finance elective, BUS-F 305 (3 cr.) Intermediate Finance. Prior to taking F305, Math Science students must see a Kelley advisor and have completed A200 and F300. Math Science student may also see a Kelley advisor about how to take additional finance courses (F303, F446, or F494) in the Kelley School of Business.
